The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
